Project Overview

The Can-Am Outlander Fender Speaker Pods were designed to bring powerful, clean audio to the trail without compromising the rugged nature of the ATV. I focused on creating a true plug-and-play system that fits naturally into the factory fender lines, so it looks intentional — not like an afterthought. Built to handle mud, water, vibration, and hard riding conditions, the housing was reinforced and optimized for 3D printing while keeping installation straightforward and serviceable. The system supports multiple speaker sizes and single or dual configurations, delivering strong sound performance while maintaining OEM-level fit and durability.

Goal of the Project

Develop a waterproof fender-mounted speaker solution for the Can-Am Outlander platform.
Create a true plug-and-play system requiring minimal vehicle modification.
Deliver high-output audio performance without interfering with rider ergonomics or suspension travel.
Maintain OEM-level fitment and visual integration with factory plastics.
Design a scalable system (single or dual speaker configurations).

Obstacles

The Outlander fender geometry varies across model years (2012–2026), requiring precise fit validation.
Fender surfaces include compound curves and flex under load.
Off-road vibration, mud, water, and debris exposure required rugged structural design.
Speaker mass introduces leverage stress on plastic mounting surfaces.
Wiring needed to be routed cleanly while avoiding steering and suspension interference.
Maintaining water resistance around speaker cutouts and wire exits.

Design Limitations

Must be 3D printed for rapid iteration and low-volume production.
Housing designed as a primary single-piece body for strength and simplified assembly.
No oversized multi-part bonding structures.
Must utilize heat-set inserts for durable thread engagement.
Designed around standard 4in, 6.5in, and 8in marine-grade speakers.
Plug-and-play harness integration required consistent internal routing strategy.
Retain serviceability for speaker replacement.
